Vocal Wisdom #1
One of the first things I work on with a lot of new singers (and one of the easiest thing to fix) is dropping your jaw. It may seem like a small thing, but it has a big effect on how your voice sounds and feels. When you drop your jaw, you are creating a space in which resonance can happen, so your voice becomes rich and relaxed. When your mouth is somewhat closed or tight, the sound stays inside instead of projecting out. I think I see this a lot because people feel shy about their voices, so keeping their mouths fairly closed is safer… if you open up, someone might actually hear you!
Try it out with my quick video —stretch your jaw, play with your ‘oohs’ and ‘ahs,’ and notice how your sound opens up!
If you’re ready to explore more tips like this, check out my Singing Simply from the Soul course. I created this course to help you connect with your natural voice, sing more freely, and use your voice to express yourself with ease and confidence. Together, we’ll demystify singing as we explore essential techniques like breath control, enunciation, resonance, pitch, and smooth transitions. We’ll finish with a blissfully healing Chakra Toning session.
