Simple Vocal Wisdom #2

Here it is, my Simple Vocal Wisdom #2 – breathe! It sounds kind of obvious, and hopefully you’re already breathing 😄, but when we’re singing, our normal breath needs to be exaggerated. If you think about it, singing is all a breath out. We need a lot of breath to work with so we have a lot of voice to work with. So, we want to exercise the connection between our voices and breathing muscles, and to strengthen the muscles, too- the Diaphragm and the Costal muscles of the rib cage, pulling air into our lungs and causing air to exit our lungs.

Try it out with my quick video – Square Breathing- count 4 beats over a slow breath in, 4 beats holding your breath, 4 beats exhaling slowly, and 4 beats keeping your lungs empty. Continue for a few minutes, making the process slower and more challenging as you go!

If you’re ready to explore more tips like this, check out my Singing Simply from the Soul course. I created this course to help you connect with your natural voice, sing more freely, and use your voice to express yourself with ease and confidence. Together, we’ll demystify singing as we explore essential techniques like breath control, enunciation, resonance, pitch, and smooth transitions. We’ll finish with a blissfully healing Chakra Toning session.
